South Korean president to visit Philippines Oct. 6-7

MANILA, Philippines — President Yoon Suk Yeol of the Republic of Korea will make a state visit to the Philippines from October 6 to 7, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) announced on Thursday.

The visit comes upon the invitation of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Yoon, together with First Lady Kim Keon Hee, will be welcomed by the president and First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos on October 7.

The PCO said the two leaders will hold a bilateral meeting on mutual areas of interest such as cooperation in political, security and defense, economic, maritime, people-to-people, and labor and consular matters.

“Both sides are also expected to exchange views of regional and international issues and reaffirm the vibrant and dynamic relations between the two countries,” the PCO said.

Yoon’s visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Philippines and Korea’s diplomatic ties in March 1949.

The PCO said that it will be the first standalone bilateral visit of a Republic of Korea president to the Philippines since 2011.
