Alice Guo tested negative for tuberculosis

MANILA, Philippines — Dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo tested negative for tuberculosis on Monday afternoon, according to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

BJMP spokesperson Jayrex Bustinera released a copy of Guo’s Gene-Xpert test results to the media, which means she will no longer be isolated in a cell with other tuberculosis patients.

“Negative test for PDL (persons deprived of liberty) Alice Guo. She will be housed in the regular cell with 43 other PDLs,” Bustinera said in a Viber message.

The former mayor arrived at the female dormitory of the Pasig City jail around 9:30 a.m. She was detained at the PNP Custodial Center for over two weeks.

Before she arrived at the Pasig City jail, Guo underwent physical and medical examinations, which revealed a suspected infection on her left lung. This could “probably” be due to stress and fatigue, according to PNP spokesperson Col Jean Fajardo.

Last September 20, Guo was cleared from the medical examination, but her supposed transfer was postponed due to slight delays in the legal procedure.

Guo, along with others, is facing a qualified human trafficking complaint filed by the PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission before the Department of Justice last June 21.

She left the country on July 18 despite the arrest order issued by the Senate over her alleged ties to the illegal activities of a Philippine offshore gaming operator in Bamban.

Another warrant of arrest was issued by the Tarlac Regional Trial Court Branch 109 against Guo for reportedly violating the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act last September 5. This case was transferred to the Valenzuela court.

Indonesian authorities arrested Guo in Jakarta on September 4. She was deported to the Philippines on September 6.
