MANILA, Philippines — The remains of two Chinese businessmen who were suspected to be have been kidnapped were found in Camarines Sur, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Wednesday.

PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said the bodies of two victims — a Chinese and Chinese-American — were found in Sagñay, Camarines Sur on June 24.

Fajardo said the victims, whose names were not yet publicly known, arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on June 20 upon the invitation of business partners who were also Chinese nationals.

“They were invited into the country for a business venture,” Fajardo told reporters in a phone interview.

However, on June 21, the relatives received a P5-million ransom demand from still unknown assailants.

The relatives of two businessmen, who arrived in the country on June 28, positively identified the two victims, according to Fajardo.

She confirmed that they now have persons of interest, but did not explicitly say that it was the Chinese businessmen the two victims met.

“As of now it’s still too early to [conclude] and we are looking from all angles. Obviously, their arrival here was anticipated, someone fetched them up and that was the last the last time someone heard from them, including their families,” Fajardo said.

“So we are now looking for the businessmen they met on June 20,” she added.
