MANILA, Philippines — The Rizal Monument and the Musical Dancing Fountain in Rizal Park lit up blue and yellow to celebrate the founding of the international organization, the European Union (EU).

According to the EU Ambassador to the Philippines, H. E. Luc Véron, the lighting ceremonies of the two monuments on Sunday, May 5, were a joint initiative of the EU delegation to the Philippines and the National Parks and Development Committee.

“The illumination of these two iconic spots in Rizal Park is also an opportunity to highlight the partnership and friendship between the European Union and the Philippines, especially as this year marks the 60th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic relations,” Véron said in a statement.

The EU delegation also noted the connections between Rizal Park and Europe, such as its history and the inspiration for some of its attractions.

Aside from the Rizal Monument and the dancing fountain, the Heroes’ Square in Intramuros will also light up EU colors from May 6 to 11.

De La Salle University and the National Museum of the Philippines will join the celebrations by lighting their structures in EU colors.
