MANILA, Philippines — A total of 99 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were rescued from Sudan will arrive in the country on Sunday evening, the Department of Migrant Workers said.
According to DMW, the agency and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) are ready to receive the returning migrant workers via Saudi Airlines flight at 7:40 p.m.
“This will be the largest group of Filipinos to return home so far from the Sudan conflict,” the DMW wrote in a Facebook post.
Among the 99 OFWs is a group of 41 migrant workers who were lodged at a hotel in Cairo, Egypt, before they were transferred to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Last April 29, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), DMW, and OWWA welcomed the first batch of 17 government-assisted Filipino evacuees from Sudan, who arrived in Manila flying out on April 28 from Athens, Greece; and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Article continues after this advertisementBased on earlier reports, the concerned agencies have been working to repatriate hundreds of Filipinos caught in the civil conflict of paramilitaries in Sudan since it began.
