US-bound Filipino students receive P12 million financial aid offers

MANILA, Philippines — Over P12 million or $240,000 worth of financial aid offers were received by Filipino students who were accepted into universities in the United States, the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines said Friday.

This was revealed in a survey conducted by the EducationUSA Philippines among 60 Filipino students during their pre-departure orientation last June 24.

The survey showed more than half of the Filipino undergraduates and graduate students received financial aid awards that are renewable annually, the embassy said in a statement.

Apart from the survey, the orientation also provided Filipino students with information about international study, safety and security, and travel during the pandemic as US universities returned to in-person classes.

The embassy’s Consular Section also joined the event to answer questions about student visas.

Filipino alumni in the EducationUSA program were also invited to share their experiences and give advice related to studying abroad.

“I am excited to see what your future studies have in store for you,” US Embassy in the Philippines Deputy Cultural Affairs Officer Jennifer Goldstein said.

“I wish you all an amazing US college experience,” she added.

The US Embassy in the Philippines said that increasing access to international education in the United States is one of its top priorities, as it celebrates 75 years of diplomatic relations with the Philippines. – Xander Dave Ceballos, INQUIRER.net intern
