DFA: 56 new COVID-19 cases, 24 more deaths among Filipinos abroad
MANILA, Philippines — Fifty-six new coronavirus cases among overseas Filipinos were reported by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), with 10 new recoveries and 24 new deaths.
Data released by the DFA on Wednesday showed that a total of 6,074 Filipinos abroad have tested positive for the new coronavirus.
However, only 2,766 remain under treatment while 2,842 have recovered or been discharged from the hospital.
There are 466 total deaths reported so far, according to the DFA.

Middle East remains to have the highest recorded COVID-19 cases at over 3,900 as well as deaths at 207, said the DFA. It also has the highest total number of recoveries and patients undergoing treatment at over 2,000 and nearly 1,700, respectively.
In the Philippines, there are so far 26,781 COVID-19 cases as of June 16. Of the number, 6,552 have recovered while 1,103 have died.
Globally, over 7.94 million individuals have been infected by the new coronavirus, which originated from Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province late last year. More than 430,000 have died from the disease across the world.
