Filipinos abroad infected with coronavirus reach 2,178
MANILA, Philippines — Thirty-eight more Filipinos abroad have contracted the coronavirus disease, bringing the total to 2,178, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Saturday.
Meanwhile, nine more fatalities have been recorded, with the death toll now at 253 from the previous number of 244, according to the DFA’s latest data as of May 9.
Of the total number of cases, 1,285 are undergoing treatment while 640 patients have successfully recovered or have been discharged from the hospital.
The World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 a pandemic. As of May 9, the disease has infected more than four million worldwide, and claimed the lives of more than 276,300.
The Philippines, meanwhile, has 10,610 COVID-19 cases, with 1,842 recoveries and 704 deaths.
