Deaths among overseas Filipinos due to COVID-19 breach 200-mark

MANILA, Philippines — Thirty new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) among overseas Filipinos have been reported as the number of deaths breached the 200-mark, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

Data released by the department on Friday showed that the total number of Filipinos abroad who have contracted the disease climbed to 1,707.

Of the number, the DFA said 1,050 are still undergoing treatment while 455 have already recovered.

Some 202 COVID-related fatalities have so far been reported.

“Across the globe, the DFA records an average of almost 43 new COVID-19 cases daily among Filipinos abroad for the past month,” the DFA said.

In the Philippines, health officials have so far confirmed 8,772 COVID-19 cases. Of the number, 579 have died while 1,084 have recovered from the disease.
