PH seeks diplomatic ties with Bhutan

/ 05:20 AM January 17, 2020

The Philippines wants to establish diplomatic relations with the kingdom of Bhutan, which is known for measuring prosperity by its people’s happiness level instead of economic progress.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has taken the initial step to establish diplomatic ties with the South Asian nation by presenting its request formally on Dec. 18, 2019.

Foreign Assistant Secretary for Asia and Pacific Affairs Meynardo Montealegre presented the request letter from Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. to Bhutan Foreign Minister Tandi Dorji during a courtesy call in Thimphu, the kingdom’s capital. —DONA Z. PAZZIBUGAN
