Hungary to provide mobile water treatment equipment

/ 05:24 AM November 14, 2019

MANILA, Philippines — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) signed on Wednesday a deal with a Hungarian firm that would ensure a supply of potable water in calamity-hit areas.

NDRRMC executive director and Office of Civil Defense Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad signed a memorandum of agreement with Hungarian Water Technology Corp. for the “delivery of a mobile water treatment compact unit to supply drinking water during emergency situations and natural disasters in the Philippines.”

The mobile water treatment equipment worth $200,000 (approximately P10.17million) can even process seawater, Jalad said, adding that the equipment’s mobility meant that it could be moved from one island to another.

The compact unit was expected to be delivered in February next year, with its commission slated for April 2020. —Jeannette I. Andrade
