MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) pledging bilateral cooperation to combat human trafficking and protect women and children, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Saturday.

The MOU was signed by Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in New York City at the sidelines of the 74th United Nations General Assembly session.

In a statement, the DFA said that under the MOU, the Philippines and UAE will adopt procedures to combat human trafficking, share best practices, exchange information, promote human rights and provide assistance in the protection, rescue, repatriation, recovery and rehabilitation of trafficking victims in accordance with domestic laws. —Jerome Aning
