MANILA, Philippines — Army chief Lt. Gen. Macairog Alberto visited his counterpart at the Ground Forces of the Russian Federation on Monday in Moscow, Russia to discuss bilateral military cooperation.

Alberto was invited by Russian Ground Forces Army Gen. Oleg Salyukov. The two leaders discussed the training of Filipino servicemen in Russian military schools and participation of Philippine teams in the International Army Games, Army spokesperson Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala said in a statement.

“We recognize the evolving security threats that our country faces and international cooperation is necessary to effectively address them. Our Russian counterparts’ experience in combat against various threats and the subsequent training will enhance our own capabilities that will help us in accomplishing our mission,” he said.

The Philippine Army delegation also visited the Combined Arms Academy of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

Alberto also toured the Tank Guards Command of the Western Military District and the Research Institute of Precision Machinery.
