FBI invites PNP chief for discussion on counter-terrorism

MANILA, Philippines — The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other law enforcement agencies in the United States have invited Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde to attend a 10-day official mission to tackle counter-terrorism.

During the mission, Albayalde will attend working meetings, discussions, and seminars on how to thwart terrorism, PNP spokesperson Senior Supt. Bernard Banac said in an advisory on Tuesday.

The mission covers March 12 until March 22, Banac said.

Accompanying Albayalde in the US official trip is Deputy Director General Fernando Mendez Jr., deputy chief for administration of the PNP.

Albayalde has designated Deputy Director General Francisco Gamboa, deputy chief for operations, as the officer-in-charge of the PNP during his absence.

According to Banac, the FBI has been inviting PNP chiefs in the past to attend similar meetings to discuss ways to combat various forms of criminality. /jpv
