Duterte to meet with Asean leaders in Bali

President Rodrigo Duterte will be flying to Bali, Indonesia on Wednesday to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Leaders’ Gathering.

Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Assistant Secretary for Asean Affairs Junever Mahilum-West made the announcement on Monday morning in a press briefing in Malacañang.

“The Asean Leaders Gathering will be held in Bali, Indonesia on 11th October 2018. The President will be attending the meeting at the invitation of Indonesia President Joko Widodo,” Mahilum-West said.

“The Asean leaders gathering will serve as a platform at the highest levels for further engagement of Asean leaders with the IMF managing director, WB President, and UN Secretary General,” she added.

The DFA official noted that the Philippines is arranging a meeting between Duterte and Widodo despite the shortness of the visit.

According to the Asean Legal Information Portal (LIP), the gathering will be held at the sidelines of the Annual Meeting of the International Monetary Fund-World Bank Group (AM IMF-WBG) 2018.

The delegates included heads of state, finance ministers, central bank governors, financial and economic actors, practitioners, academics, and representatives of non-governmental organizations. /je
