The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has barred a suspected member of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) from entering the country, BI Chief Jaime Morente said Monday.

Based on the report submitted to him by BI officer in charge Deputy Commissioner Marc Red Mariñas, the suspected ISIS member is Naeem Hussain, 36.

Hussain was intercepted by officials at the Clark International Airport in Pampanga last September 22 boarding an Emirates Airlines flight from Dubai.

“He was turned away because he is on our alert list of suspected international terrorists for being an alleged trainer of Daesh,” Morente said.

Daesh is commonly known as ISIS or Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

The BI learned that Hussain is on the watchlist of the military intelligence community. Records of the bureau also showed that the foreign national was denied entry in May via the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. /je
