Stranded OFWs can now claim P5K assistance
Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) whose flights were postponed due to Typhoon “Ompong” (international name: Mangkhut) can claim a P5,000 assistance each from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) until Sept. 30.
The DFA offered the cash assistance to OFWs whose flights abroad or return flights to the Philippines were canceled due to the typhoon.
As of Saturday, 43 stranded OFWs have approached DFA desks at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila and Clark International Airport in Pampanga to claim the assistance.
More OFWs are expected to file claims after Hong Kong-bound flights were canceled on Sunday as Ompong headed toward China. —Dona Z. Pazzibugan
