Man killed after trying to hit dog with rod
KOTA KINABALU — A man suspected to be drunk was killed when he got into a fight with a dog owner at a squatter settlement near Taman Mutiara along Jalan Utara in Sandakan.
Sandakan police chief Asst Comm Mohd Azhar Hamin said the victim was unhappy with the dog barking at him and tried to hit it with a rod, but ended up hitting the dog owner’s son instead.
A fight ensued and the man was fatally hit with an iron pipe.
The perpetrator then fled the scene with his two children at 8.35am on Wednesday.
However, police managed to arrest the 30-year-old suspect and seized the iron pipe at 1.25pm on the same day.
ACP Mohd Azhar said preliminary investigations showed the victim, in his 30s, was believed to have gone to the suspect’s house to kill his dog that morning.
Article continues after this advertisementHe said the suspect was a Filipino with permanent resident status while the victim was believed to be a foreigner without any documents.

The case has been classified as murder.
