Muslim lecturer, diplomat shot inside university in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A Muslim lecturer and a religious attaché from Saudi Arabia were shot inside the Western Mindanao State University here at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, spokesperson of the Zamboanga City Police Office, identified the victims as Dr. Aid Al-Quarni, a lecturer and author of many motivational books on Islam; and Sheik Turki Assaegh, a religious attaché of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia.

Galvez still could not say the condition of the victims who were brought to the Zamboanga Arturo Eustaquio Medical Center.

Galvez said Al-Qarni had just finished his lecture at the WMSU gymnasium and was already onboard his service vehicle with Assaegh, when a suspect shot them.

Al-Qarni was hit in his right shoulder, left arm and chest, while Assaegh was hit in his right thigh and left leg.

Members of the Police Security and Protection Group, who were detailed as close-in security, were able to kill a suspect.  SFM
