Filipino seaman dies in fall on ship in Malaysia

IPOH, Malaysia — A Filipino national died after he fell on the deck of MV Necklace while exiting the engine room on Monday, thestar.com reported.

According to Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Tengku Mohd Zailan Tengku Ahmad, the Manjung Police Operations Room received a call at 2:45 p.m. from the ship saying that a worker had fallen and suffered severe injuries.

Early investigations showed that the 22-year-old Filipino, whose name was not released, fell on the deck and the incident happened at a location about eight nautical miles northeast of Pulau Pangkor.

The ship was traveling from Singapore to Lumut.

“The post mortem revealed that his death was caused by polytrauma secondary fall from height.
“From the incident, the victim suffered severe spinal fracture and internal bleeding in the brain,” said Mohd Zailan.
