OFWs warned vs jobs in Afghanistan, Iraq

/ 04:47 AM September 23, 2011

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) on Thursday warned the public against illegal recruiters offering jobs in Afghanistan and Iraq.

POEA chief Carlos Cao Jr. said that only overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) with existing job contracts would be allowed to go to those two strife-torn countries.

“The partial lifting of deployment ban in Afghanistan and Iraq… covers only existing contracts that will enable our OFWs inside the US camps and facilities to finish their existing contracts and to renew or extend them on site but not new deployments from POEA,” Cao said.

“Illegal recruiters saying otherwise must not be believed and must be reported to POEA and other law enforcement authorities for legal action,” he added. Philip Tubeza
