DFA: Alert level 1 raised in Tunisia

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday announced that Alert Level 1 has been raised in the north African country of Tunisia.

“Alert Level 1 has been raised in Tunisia due to the recent terrorist attacks and threats to the security situation in that country,” DFA said in a statement to media.

It advised Filipinos living and working in the country to “take the necessary precautions.”

The agency raises Alert Level 1 “when there are valid signs of internal disturbance, instability, or external threat to the host country.”

The DFA said the Philippine Embassy in Tripoli, Libya has jurisdiction over its neighboring country and continues to monitor the situation by communicating with the Filipino community there.

Last month, a gunman opened fire at a Tunisian resort and killed 37 people. It was said to be the worst attack in the country’s recent history.
