LPA to bring rains—Pagasa

/ 03:31 PM May 06, 2011

THE weather bureau yesterday warned Cebu residents of low pressure area that might bring rains causing landslides and floodings.

Oscar Tabada, chief of Pag-asa Mactan, said a low pressure area is sighted around 300 kilometers east of Surigao, which may be developed into a tropical depression.

“There’s a probability that this low pressure area will be developed into a tropical depression that will cause heavy downpour,” Tabada said.

Tabada said if ever this low pressure area will become a tropical depression, this will be the second tropical depression in the country for the year and will be named Bebeng.

But Tabada said this will be known in the next 12 to 24 hours since yesterday.

Tabada said because this low pressure area is already near the land, it will not be that strong if indeed it will become a tropical depression. Also, he said, it will not directly hit Cebu.

He, however, warns of rains in Cebu brought about by the low pressure area.

Aside from the low pressure area, Tabada said, the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) also caused the rain yesterday. /Correspondent Jhunnex Napallacan
