MANILA, Philippines – This doctor surely found his funny bone and America’s too.
Filipino doctor Nathaniel Cruz, who posted a video series starring himself as Junjun, won America Meet World’s video contest in the series’ first episode titled Junjun: The Social Media Savvy Beggar. Episode 1 ‘Hunger.’
“Congratulations to our first ever America Meet World Winner, Nathaniel Cruz!” the website said.
Posted under the Satire category of the website, “Junjun” reaped 14,318 votes and 24,133 views and had a 99% Funny rating.
“If you think beggars don’t use social media, think again. FYI: This does not mean to diminish the tragedy of typhoon Haiyan as it was shot early 2013. In fact it shows the kindness of my fellow Filipinos & the entire world. Filipino spirit is waterproof,” the website’s video description said.
“Junjun” features a beggar pleading for food until a little kid gave him a sandwich, banana, and two pieces of pastries.
As “Junjun” opens the box, he immediately takes a photo and posts it online then promptly throws away the food.
Cruz bested Nik Rabinowitz, a stand-up comedian, and 136 other entries from over 20 countries.
