MANILA, Philippines- Malacañang on Thursday said it is not swayed by commentaries that are not fully aligned with the government’s position over its claim on the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea.)

Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. issued the statement after the Chinese state media slammed President Benigno Aquino III over remarks that compared China’s claims in the disputed West Philippine Sea to German dictator Adolf Hitler.

Coloma said the government’s position on the territorial dispute is anchored on respect for rule of law noting that Aquino’s comment was not meant to offend China.

“The principle right is might should prevail over might is right,” he said in a press briefing.

He said it is important to learn from the past, stressing that there should be unity among international communities to fight for what is right.

On Wednesday, Chinese-state media called Aquino an “ignorant and amateurish” politician following his commentaries comparing China’s territorial claims to Nazi imperialism.

The Philippine government has brought its territorial dispute with China to international bodies governing the laws of the sea but China refused to recognize the move.
