Saudi extends amnesty period for illegals

MANILA, Philippines—Undocumented foreign workers in Saudi Arabia who were not able to correct their legal status during the seven-month amnesty period were given another two months by the Saudi government to complete the rectification procedures at the Passport Department (Jawazat), according to Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz.

Citing reports, Baldoz said Saudi Interior Minister Prince Muhammad bid Naif had ordered the completion of correction procedures of expatriates before March 1.

Baldoz said she 196,633 Filipino workers in the kingdom were able to rectify their work status.—Tina G. Santos
