Too early to ask Filipinos in Japan to leave, says health chief

MANILA, Philippines—The government won’t tell Filipinos in Japan to leave the country due to danger of being exposed to radioactivity after the explosions and leakage at a nuclear power plant in Fukushima.

“Not at the moment,” Health Secretary Enrique Ona said when asked if the government would advise Filipinos in Japan to leave.

Nonetheless, Ona said Filipinos in Japan should be very cognizant of the latest advisory from the Japanese government.

Ona and Science Secretary Mario Montejo conducted a news briefing on the Japanese situation and its possible effects on the Philippines on Tuesday afternoon.
