CAMBRIDGE, UK—British health care workers and their Filipino colleagues are still responding to the disaster brought by Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (international name: Haiyan).
Regin Lagaac, senior clinical nurse in renal medicine, coordinated an effort to raise funds for the typhoon victims. Several people across the Cambridge University Hospital NHS organized fund-raising events like karaoke, disco, cake sales, cycling and money collection from the staffs and patients.
The relief efforts raised £11,200.00 sterling pounds or P800,000 for the Disasters Emergency Committee Typhoon Haiyan relief fund. The fund-raising effort has also promoted solidarity with all the 320 Filipino staff at the hospital.
The United Nations said up to 2.5 million people were still in need of assistance in areas heavily hit by the typhoon.
