Village watchmen tapped to help secure M’daue schools
With classes scheduled to start next month, the Mandaue City government is tapping its barangay tanods to help secure schools in the city and is requiring schools to have their own security guards.
The city government’s precautionary measures came amid the reports of kidnapping and child trafficking which included the kidnapping and killing of six-year-old Ellah Joy Pique.
The City Council passed the resolution during its last session.
Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede said security guards and tanods on duty would make sure the school is secured especially on the late afternoons and at night.
Bercede also encouraged the schools to require all guests to register their names in a journal.
He also advised parents to always remind their children to avoid strangers in school and encouraged them to be on time to fetch their children after school.
Mandaue City police was also asked to increase police visibility in schools when classes start. /Correspondent Princess Kathleen Gabunales
