Eden Laylo of Batangas came to Inquirer Radio 990 AM to seek the help of Bantay OCW Foundation concerning the problem of her sister Marife.
Marife was recently granted an exit amnesty and was deported. She was escorted by Saudi authorities and immediately brought to the airport to board a plane for Manila. She did not get a chance to see her daughter who was left behind with the father who is also an undocumented worker there.
Eden told Bantay OCW that her sister had long wanted to go back to the Philippines but could not since she has no legal documents. She welcomed her deportation after seven years working illegally in
Saudi.
But now that Marife is back in the country, she’s worried about her daughter. Cenon, the girl’s father, is also experiencing difficulty since he is also undocumented.
It was Cenon who asked Marife’s family to seek assistance from Bantay OCW regarding their situation.
We immediately notified the Philippine Embassy in Saudi Arabia regarding this case. We hope father and daughter can be reunited with Marife.
According to Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, only those who have pending cases will find it hard to come back without delay since they have to face the crimes they have committed.
