Mayol fights in undercard
RODEL Mayol (27W-5L-2D, 21 KOs) of Mandaue City will fight Javier Gallo of Mexico (17W-3L-1D, 9 KOs) in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Sugar Shane Mosley fight at the MGM Grand this Sunday.
The 29-year-old Mayol has continued his training at the Wild Card Gym of Freddie Roach after spending close to a month in Pacquiao’s camp in Baguio City and Rex ‘Wakee’ Salud’s gym in Cebu. He won the WBC lt.flyweight title in 2009, beating Mexican Edgar Sosa by second round TKO but lost it in a rematch with Omar Niño Romero last June.
The Mayol-Gallo non-title fight is set for eight rounds.
Meanwhile, Filipino flyweight prospect Marlon Tapales (16W-1L, 5KOs ) will face Alejandro Solorio (4W-4L, 3 KOs) of California at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino also in Las Vegas on May 7.
Tapales’ last fight was in Dalaguete, Cebu last February where he knocked out Charlie Cabilla in the first round.
The May 7 Mandalay Bay fight card will also feature Filipino Bernabe Concepcion (28W-4L-1D, 15 KO’s), who will fight Juan Carlos Martinez (18W-12-1D, 7 KO’s) of Mexico. /Correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
