Pa charged for son’s death

Charges were filed in court against the 21-year-old man who allegedly beat his son to death last Sunday.

Restitoto Ibo Jr., a resident of barangay Sapangdaku, Cebu City, is facing trial on charges of parricide for the death of his one year and two months old son.

No bail was recommended.

Assistant City Prosecutor Alex Gabud found probable cause to elevate the charges against Ibo who claimed he lost his patience when his son didn’t stop crying.

Ibo was arrested by police after the incident.

His live-in partner, Cara Bantilan, executed an affidavit against him.

In his sworn statement, Bantilan said she left their house at 9 a.m. last Sunday to wash clothes in a river.

When she returned home three hours after, she noticed that her son had breathing difficulty while lying on the bamboo floor.

The woman said Ibo admitted to her that he punched the right side of the child’s back, slapped his face and flicked his lips.

The mother said Ibo further explained that the child didn’t stop crying, prompting him to beat his son.

Bantilan tried to rescue her son by letting him drink and pumped the child’s chest.

However, the child eventually died.

Autopsy report showed that the child sustained traumatic injuries.

Chief Insp. Joe Martin Fuentes, medico legal officer, said there were indications that the child was hit with a hard objoect.

Fuentes said the boy’s right shoulder was dislocated, while his lungs had bruises.

The boy also sustained several contusions in various parts of his body. REPORTER ADOR VINCENT S. MAYOL AND CORRESPONDED CHITO O. ARAGON
