Philippines bans deployment of Filipino workers to Syria

MANILA, Philippines—The government on Tuesday banned the deployment of overseas Filipino workers to Syria after the Department of Foreign Affairs raised the alert level for that country to 3, a labor official said.

Carlos Cao, head of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, said the ban covered both new-hires and the returning workers or those who are just on vacation from Syria.

“Once Alert Level 3 is confirmed all over the country, the deployment of both new hires and balik-mangagawa is banned,” Caos aid.
