Veterinary supplies turned over to Cebu City

More than 20 boxes of supplies, materials, anesthetics and rabies vaccines were turned over to the Cebu City Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF) on April 13 and 20.

The supplies and materials came from the Humane Society International (HSI); the anesthetics were from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the rabies vaccines were from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).

To recall, the HSI signed a memorandum of understanding with the Cebu City government, through the DVMF, to provide supplies, materials, additional veterinarians and training to local veterinarians.

In the later part of 2010, two veterinarians were assigned in the DVMF’s Animal Birth Control Center to conduct spay and neuter. These veterinarians were paid by the HSI.

Early this year, a series of trainings were also spearheaded by HSI and the DVMF.

The trainings on quick spay and neuter were participated in by the different veterinarians from other cities and provinces. There were also trainings for dog catchers and vaccinators, and on the conduct of dog census for barangay personnel.

The veterinary supplies cost P988,050. The anesthetics received from JICA worth P82,400 will be used in spay and neuter, while the rabies vaccines from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation amounting to P326,850 are intended for the vaccination of dogs and cats in the different barangays in Cebu City.
