Politics eyed in Calbayog mayor’s slay
TACLOBAN CITY — A daughter of slain Mayor Reynaldo Uy of Calbayog City cited politics as behind her father’s death Saturday evening.
Uy, 59, a party-mate of the President, was gunned down by a lone gunman inside a covered court in Hinabangan town, also in Samar, at 9:30 p.m.
He was hit in the left upper part of the chest by a bullet that also grazed the right arm of Samar Board Member Eunice Babalcon, who was seated next to Uy at the presidential table.
The doctors attending Uy at the Divine Word Hospital in Tacloban City declared him dead at 1:20 a.m. Sunday.
Babalcon, 29, has been declared out of danger although she remained at the same hospital.
In a prepared speech delivered before the media Monday, Rosa Jessica Uy-Delgado, Uy’s eldest daughter, said the killing of her father was a “political murder” perpetrated by a “highly corrupt politician.” /INQUIRER
