DZIQ: NAIA scan machines not working, says security official

The Ion scan machines at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport are not working, a NAIA security official told Radyo Inquirer Tuesday.

MANILA, Philippines – The Ion scan machines at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport are not working, a NAIA security official told Radyo Inquirer Tuesday.

Corporal Allan Dahili said these scanning machines would have helped them in detecting drugs or explosives inside luggages.

Dahili issued the statement as NAIA was placed on heightened alert following the death of terrorist Osama Bin Laden whose supporters may stage retaliatory attacks.

The Airport Police Department (APD) has recommended that the Manila International Airport Authority buy a dual scanner that could detect bombs.

But NAIA General Manager Jose Angel Honrado said that they have tightened security and advised the passengers to arrive ahead of their designated flights to give airport police time to search their luggage and reminded them to cooperate with authorities.

For the full report, listen to Radyo Inquirer, DZIQ 990 AM.
