MANILA, Philippines—Another ship will be visiting the Philippines Friday, anchoring at Subic Bay for maintenance and supplies replenishment, the United States Embassy announced Thursday.
The “routine” port call of the USS Emory S. Land, a submarine tender, “highlights the strong historic, community, and military connections between the United States and the Philippines,” the embassy said in a statement.
The Emory S. Land is part of the US Pacific Fleet and is homeported at the US military base in Diego Garcia, the British overseas territory in the Indian Ocean.
The ship’s visit will give its crew the opportunity for rest and relaxation, the embassy said.
Launched in 1977, the ship is named after Vice Admiral Emory Scott Land of the US Navy, who oversaw the design and construction of submarines and noncombatant ships during the two world wars.
