Dozens arrested in Sabah

DIGOS CITY, Philippines— More than four dozen people suspected of having ties to the Kirams’ “royal army” have been taken into police custody, the Malaysian police inspector general said Friday.

Speaking at a news conference aired by a Sarawak-based shortwave radio station, whose broadcast was monitored here, Malaysian police Inspector General Ismail Omar said the suspects were being detained and investigated under the Security Offences Act and Malaysia’s penal code.

Ismail declined to provide further details on the arrests but described them as “necessary.”
