Sultanate spokesperson denies receiving funds from Malaysian opposition

MANILA, Philippines—Abraham Idjirani, spokesperson of the Sultanate of Sulu, reiterated Tuesday that he is not receiving funds from the Malaysian opposition, stressing that if it were true he wouldn’t make travels on a tricycle.

“Kapag may nag pi-finance sa’kin, sasabihin ko ‘i-provide niyo naman ako kahit lumang kotse bilang secretary general ng Sultanate,” Idjirani said in an interview with Radyo Inquirer 990AM.

Sultan Jamalul Kiram III’s brother, Raja Muda Azzimudie Kiram, has been leading a group of roughly 200 armed Filipinos in its fight over a territorial dispute in Lahad Datu, Sabah.

Clashes in the disputed area have taken the lives of several people from both sides.
