Burmese ship eyed in oil spill

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine Coast Guard on Friday said that the oil spill that reportedly contaminated the shorelines of 11 coastal barangays from La Union up to Ilocos Norte might have come from the sunken Burmese cargo ship MV Arita Bauxite.

But PCG spokesperson Cmdr. Armand Balilo was quick to add that the results of their investigation is not yet conclusive.

He added that the oil samples taken near the site where the ship sank in Bolinao, Pangasinan, matched the oil that was recovered from the oil spill.
