Taiwanese drug inmate ‘rescued’

CAVITE, Philippines—A Taiwanese national, detained at the Cavite provincial jail, for a drug offense was snatched by a still unidentified number of men as he was being transported from the jail facility in Trece Martires City to Imus City in Cavite on Wednesday.

Cavite Gov. Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla, in a phone interview, said the snatching took place around 11 a.m. in front of the Cavite provincial hospital in Trece Martires City.

He, however, could not provide details on whether the Taiwanese inmate, whose name was not immediately available, was abducted or was taken as there are reports that the foreigner was “rescued.”

Remulla said the Taiwanese was arrested and detained in 2008 for operating an illegal drug laboratory in Tanza, Cavite. The reason for his supposed transport to Imus City this morning was also not clear yet.  Maricar Cinco, Inquirer Southern Luzon
