Abello, Duoton bag top plums

LEO ABELLO and Emelyn Duoton took advantage of the absence of some of Cebu’s best runners to rule the Run UP High yesterday at the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu campus.

Abello dominated the men’s 12-kilometer race with a time of 44 minutes and 52 seconds.

Duoton, meanwhile, clocked 59:18 to rule the women’s side.

More than a hundred runners joined the race, which was for the benefit of the scholarship program of UP High School Alumni Association Inc. (UPHSAAI).

Most of Cebu’s elite runners were not present since they joined the Mayor’s Cup race in Mandaue City organized by the Mandaue City Sports Commission.

Ramie Lawas, meanwhile, ruled the 6k male division with a time of 20 minutes and 17 seconds.  Rose Caballero topped the distaff side with a time of 28 minutes and 16 seconds.

Three kilometer  winners were Dann Anthony Astillero and Myrna Magdayao.  /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
