MANILA, Philippines–The Bureau of Immigration is deporting a convicted American pedophile.
Earl Lynn Bagley, 60, was arrested on February 4 at the Robinsons Mall in Ermita, Manila, Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David said Wednesday.
David said Bagley is the subject of an arrest warrant issued in November by a US district court in Washington following his failure to update his registration as a sex offender.
“We will thus deport him not only for being an undesirable alien but also because he is already overstaying and undocumented,” David said.
Bagley’s passport was revoked by the US State Department and he failed to extend his tourist visa since he last arrived in the country on April 17 last year.
Immigration acting intelligence chief Ma. Antonette Mangrobang said that Bagley’s offense stemmed from his failure to update his registration as a sex offender.
Mangrobang explained that the registration is a system in the US designed to enable authorities to keep track of the residence and activities of Americans convicted of sex crimes.
All 50 US states have reportedly passed laws requiring sex offenders, especially child sex offenders, to periodically report their residence upon leaving prison or after being convicted of their crime.
Various websites on sex offenders revealed that on October 29, 2004 a Seattle court sentenced Bagley to 51 months custody, including three years of supervised release, on charges of possessing visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. His supervised released reportedly began in September 2007 and ended in August 2010.
