FVR mourns death of US Sen. Inouye

MANILA, Philippines–Former President Fidel V. Ramos on Tuesday expressed sadness over the death of US Sen. Daniel Inouye, whom he described as “not only a good personal friend, but also a great friend of the Philippines and the Filipino people.”

“The death of Senator Dan Inouye … is a great loss, especially for veterans whether of World War II or younger. He was a hero to all of them, including myself,” Ramos told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

“That’s why it’s really unfortunate that Dan Inouye is now gone,” he added.

Although Inouye did not directly help them during the popular Edsa I uprising in 1986, Ramos said the American senator’s “feelings were always for the soldiers who are doing their duty.”
