Aquino wishes ‘Will and Kate’ well, hopes media will give them some privacy

MANILA, Philippines—President Benigno Aquino III expressed on Thursday his best wishes to the British Prince William and his fiancée Kate Middleton on the eve of their much anticipated wedding set for Friday (April 29).

In expressing his best wishes to the royal couple through his spokesman Edwin Lacierda, Aquino said he wished the media would leave them alone so they could have private space to work on any challenges in their marriage.

According to Lacierda, Malacañang will send a letter carrying the government’s well-wishes to the new royal couple.

“The President wishes them well in their new life as husband and wife,” Lacierda said of William and Kate.

He said the 51-year-old bachelor President also wished the media would “afford some level of privacy” to the couple “to allow them to develop and establish their marriage foundation.”

Asked whether the President was speaking from experience when he made the wish, Lacierda said this was because President Aquino realized that the British royal couple would be having a “fishbowl existence.”

“He sympathizes with them because they will be in the public eye. It’s going to be a fishbowl existence starting tomorrow (Friday),” Lacierda told reporters on Thursday.

President Aquino and his spokespersons had often asked the media to also allow the Chief Executive some privacy when it came to his love life.
