MANILA, Philippines—One of the Volvo-riding men who allegedly attacked and stabbed dead a US Marine officer has a kidney dialysis center and has been helping at least six patients stricken with kidney diseases.
This was according to Raffy Baksal, a 35-year-old native of Samar province whose wife Mylene has been undergoing kidney dialysis for free at St. Vincent Dialysis Center in Barangay Pembo at Makati City.
The center, he said, is owned by Osric Cabrera, 27, one of the four men charged with murder in connection with the death of George Anikow, a US Marine.
“I cannot believe he was involved in the killing. He is a good man,” Baksal said, adding he saw Cabrera when he gave away gifts last Christmas.
He said it was two years ago when Cabrera, the son of a physician, gave his wife weekly dialysis treatments for free. “He also allowed us to stay at the center and gave us food,” Baksal said.
The suspects in the killing of Anikow reportedly belong to wealthy families. The Volvo driver, Juan Alfonzo Abastillas, is the son of the owner of the Orient Star Transport Phil Inc. shipping freight company.
A check with the Land Transportation Office showed that the silver Volvo which the suspects were riding in and where the weapon allegedly used in the killing was recovered, was registered under that company.
