Fil-Ams urged to vote for Palawan river in New 7 Wonders of Nature

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco is calling on all Filipino-Americans in the United States to vote for the Puerto Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park in the New 7 Wonders of Nature.

“No less than His Excellency, President Benigno S. Aquino, III called on the 80 million Filipinos all over the world to vote for PPSRNP,” the consulate said in a statement.

Aquino has underscored the need for all Filipinos to vote and help push the country’s bid for a spot in the search, which is now in its third and final phase.

The 8.2 kilometer navigable underground river, which features a limestone karst mountain landscape in Puerto Princesa City, is one of the 28 finalists for the New Seven Wonders of Nature.

A distinguishing feature of the river, refuted as the world’s longest, is that it winds through a cave before flowing directly into the South China Sea.

In 1999, the river was included in the Unesco List of World Heritage Sites on for its outstanding ecological universal value.

The new seven wonders of nature will be announced on November 11.
