Aquino congratulates Obama
President Benigno Aquino on Wednesday afternoon wrote reelected US President Barack Obama a congratulatory letter, saying he looked forward to a “deeper cooperation” in Obama’s second term.
“President Aquino wrote that the American people, in giving a new mandate to Mr. Obama, have trusted him to stay the course, move them forward, and to continue harnessing the voices and ideas of the American people,” presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said, reading from a prepared statement.
Lacierda said Mr. Aquino’s letter was sent to the White House through the Department of Foreign Affairs. He could not say if and when Mr. Aquino would call Mr. Obama.
In the letter, the President recalled how four years ago, Obama’s “message of hope resonated with the American people and the world, marking the beginning of the long road back for one of the world’s greatest countries,” Lacierda said.
