UP, Ateneo make it to top 50 world’s best English-teaching universities
MANILA, Philippines—Who says that the quality of English teaching in the Philippines is declining?
Two Philippine universities made the list of the top 50 English-teaching universities in the world, vaulting over some highly-regarded institutions in the United States, Europe and Asia.
The University of the Philippines and the Ateneo de Manila University were declared among the world’s top English teachers under the QS World University Rankings, which recently released the results of a survey of the best teaching institutions by subject.
UP ranked 34th while Ateneo was 35th in the Quacquarelli Symonds 2011 (www.topuniversities.com) survey, which assessed schools worldwide based on their academic performance and employer ratings.
UP garnered a total score of 43.7 points while Ateneo got 42.8 in English-teaching, among the highest scores of Asian universities in the survey.
The De La Salle University made the 51-100 bracket, while the University of Santo Tomas made the cut in the 101-150 bracket.
