Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA)

MANILA, Philippines— Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) head Carmelita Dimzon reiterated Tuesday the benefits one can get in signing up with OWWA, following the death of a Filipino worker in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia last week.

In an interview with Erwin Aguilon of “Dyaryo sa Radyo” on Radyo Inquirer 990AM, Dimzon said that the family of an OWWA member who has died would be provided financial and livelihood assistance.

Scholarship grants are also being provided, she said.

In the case of Florentino Santiago, 44, a Filipino worker who was among the 23 killed when a tanker exploded last Thursday, Dimzon said Santiago’s family would receive death benefits, livelihood assistance, and scholarship grants.

Meanwhile, among the eight Filipinos injured from the blast, only four off them have been verified members of OWWA.

While OWWA won’t be able to provide financial grants to the family of the injured non-members, Dimzon said that OWWA representatives would visit their families for counselling and some livelihood assistance.
